32? Guatay Mountain (4885')

Location: San Diego County, California

Name derived from the Diegueño Indian word kwaitai which is believed to mean "large". A Valle de Guatay is shown on a desiño of Rancho Cuyamaca (ca. 1845).

When cited on an early HPS Peak List (1946a), the elevation was thought to be 5300'--it was excised when this error was noted (1946).

Name first appears on USGS Cuyamaca quad (1903).

Peak was on the original 1946 HPS Peak List.
