1E Cannel Point

Location: Kern County, California

Named after local pioneer sheepman Arthur Cannell. He frequented this area, but lived along the South fork of the Kern River during the 1890's. The name was misspelled on the benchmark from which the HPS use name is derived. There is a nearby Cannell Peak, and Cannell Meadow have the largest collection (280 species) of wildflowers in the Sierra.

Peak sometimes is known as "Point Lovely Rogers". Lovely Rogers was a prospector who discovered wealth in the Greenhorn Mountains. He was of Cherokee heritage, from Arkansas.

Peak was added to the HPS Peak List in 1971, and deListed in 2008.
