Leaders: Joe Young, Stag Brown
Seventeen hikers, including Reina Lee Brown, age one year and three days, joined today's outing. This was the 14th annual First Sunday in June Hike with Stag Hike. Half the group met for breakfast at Lloyd's of La Cañada for breakfast prior to the scheduled meeting time.
We decided to do cleanup first, at least on the south side of the Angeles Crest Highway. We reconvened at mileage marker 51.74 and dispensed tools, vests, hard hats and gloves, and began our clean up at the turnouts until reaching nearly Cloudburst Summit. Nine or ten bags of trash were collected.
Then we drove to the road head for Williamson east of the tunnels. Our hike was uneventful. Stag carried Reina (aka Little Whitney) on a special REI baby carrier all day. Nami Brown and assistant leader Joe Young swept all day. The hike, scheduled as a beginners' outing, was conducted slowly.
Eight hikers checked out on the summit of Williamson. We declared the "summit" to be where we first found a register.
Goodies were shared on the summit. Recent overcast days in the Los Angeles basin gave way to brilliant sunshine along the Crest Highway and on the summit of Williamson. Photographs of Reina's first ascent show her squinting in the bright sunlight.
After the hike seven participants reconvened at Pepe's Mexican Restaurant for post-hike revelry.
Thanks to Stag for leading all day, and for carrying Reina Lee the whole distance.
