Boy Girl, were we surprised when 44 participants showed for this hike! But big surprises were in store for the guys on this Sadie's Day. Cat hats, doggie treats (for the fellows), a whip, and dog leashes were on hand in addition to the ten essentials.
Urging all to carpool, we reconvened at Big Tujunga Canyon Rd mile marker 4.76 and after signing in, we started up the brush to the Fox trail. The hike could have been mercilessly hot, yet an overcast day, a cool breeze, and lots of water flowing down Fusier Canyon provided the comfort and beauty the San Gabriels can offer us. Only once or twice did Nami on her sweep up have to (literally) crack the whip for "Man Control" which was so thoughtfully provided by "Just Sylvia." When Joe Young began to complain, he was gently and justly collared and leashed and tamed to better social behavior.
There was a nice mix of abilities, so we made the summit in under 3 hours. Doggie treats (Hershey Kisses) were distributed to all the fellows - for a hike well done as Ruskie, our #1 HPS Mascot with 100+ peaks bemusedly looked on. We found Don Tidwell and company enjoying the view, but alas we found no register. Being resourceful women, we made a temporary one consisting of a new notebook in a Tupperware container. Nami adventurously led the group down the southeast ridge which met the trail in short order for a pleasant stroll back to the cars.
Thanks to all 44 hikers who shared the day with us - the guys who were all good sports and the women for being women! See you next Leap Year?
