Mud bathing in the shallow waters of Piru Creek was an extra feature to this 100 Peaks outing. We had decided to stay at King's Camp instead of Twin Pines Camp, since the latter could not be reached by car and most of us were not prepared to backpack.
Dick Worsfold claimed Alamo Mtn. as 100th peak the next morning and after a stimulating mountain toast, we were in the right spirit for McDonald Peak. Numerous logging roads made the old ridge trail hard to find, but thanks to Bill Utterback's pathfinding ability we were soon on the right track.
We looked out for California condors as this region is close to their homeland. Not far from Sewart Mountain we discovered one describing a big circle around the mountain. A truly majestic sight!
A surprise came in the form of an ice cold watermelon waited for us when we came back to the cars. The Ramsteadts were the friendly donors. We all thank you -- it was delicious!
