Forty-two people congregated in Yucca Valley on this beautiful but chilly winter morning. After a short but rough caravan up Pipes Canyon, the group climbed Chaparrosa Peak, gaining the top easily in an hour and a half. I counted forty-two people on top of mountain, and two people who started didn't make it, so arithmetic is no longer reliable. However, nobody seemed to be missing when we got back to the cars, so after lunch we caravaned over to the end of the Gamma Gulch road. Two hours hiking brought the whole group to the top of Black Mt., and everyone was back out to the cars by 5:00 PM.
