Josephine Peak

17 November 2002

By: Bobcat Thompson, Jim Fleming, Stag Brown, Joe Young

Somehow this outing missed the Schedule and The Lookout, yet attracted a fair crowd anyway.

Beckoned by word of mouth only, a dozen hikers met at Hill Street Café at the intersection of the Angeles Crest Highway and Foothill Blvd in La Cañada at 9:00 AM this fine Sunday morning. After breakfast, we were joined by two more at the La Cañada rideshare point at 10:00. After some consolidation, the group reassembled at the road head close to the junction of the Angeles Crest Highway and the Angeles Forest Highway a half hour later. The ban on hiking in the Angeles National Forest had ended only a few days earlier after a storm had doused the forest with badly needed rain. Weather today was fantastic, with thin, high clouds and cool temps.

This hike marked the thirtieth (30th) anniversary of Bobcat Thompson's first scheduled lead for the Hundred Peaks Section.

Since this was not an "official" outing, hikers started up the road at their own discretion. Most started hiking at about 10:45. Stag, Nami and Reina Lee Brown took a shortcut from the road head to the road to Josephine. Most of the group reassembled at the intersection with the trail to Josephine at the ridge top, then moved on to the summit, arriving shortly after 1 PM. On the summit we shared goodies, including a key-lime pie carefully transported by Roy Stewart.

After a lengthy stay on the summit, we retraced our steps to our vehicles, the last arriving at about 3 PM.

Participants included Bobcat Thompson, Stag Brown, Nami Brown, Reina Lee Brown, Joe Young, Roy Stewart, Karen Stewart, Mikey Baldwin, Sandy Houston, Scott Jamison, Yvonne Jamison, Mike Sandford, Janet Damen, and Jim Fleming. Four-footed participants included Maui (Fleming), Madison (Stewart), and Nevada (Jamison).
