Mount San Antonio

5 October 1991

By: Patty Kline

Leaders: Patty Kline, Frank Goodykoontz

This has become a tradition as my 5th annual hike of "Baldy from the Village" on the Saturday of Oktoberfest. Also, this is Frank's third year assisting me. It is a great one for exercise with 11 miles round trip and 5600' gain. 7 of us met a 7 am at the Baldy Carpool Point.

We got to the top in 4 1/2 hours, a leisurely pace according to the 11 "animals" I know. After having lunch on top, Frank led us down the scree slope to the Baldy Ski Hut. The Ski Mountaineers were there on their annual work party. We stopped and visited for a few minutes. We were back to the Manker Flat roadhead by about 3:45. Some of us went on the Oktoberfest.

Those participating in the hike besides Frank and me were Barbara Pedersen, Jack Haddad, Bonnie Michel, Jennifer Lambelet, and Debbie Stump.

This hike will be repeated on the Saturday of Oktoberfest 1992, as my HPS List Finisher by doing Baldy first, then hopping over to Mt Harwood for my last peak. Frank Goodykoontz and Barbara Cohen will assist me. Dotty and Mike Sandford will lead a more relaxed group from Harwood Lodge to meet us before we climb to the top of Harwood. All of you are invited to join the party!
